Harmony between new and old

The English word 'loft' stands for attic, roof space and gallery. By 'lofts' we mean residential units with large floor areas, high ceilings and open-space layouts where old factories or industrial buildings have been converted into modern and youthful homes. Originally serving as studios and living space for artist, lofts have soon become standards of architectural excellence. The initial loft movement played a crucial role in bringing New York’s Soho district (on the brink of decline in the 1950s) back to life and turning it into a new urban center. Today the design trend of Western Europe is driven by the loft: London’s Docklands or the converted structures in Amsterdam’s port district have come to define the skyline of the modern metropolis. In Hungary, the chosen few may soon come to share the exquisite experience offered by loft apartments.
